There are a few different theories as to how the parting of the Red Sea occurred. Some people believe that a strong wind blew for a extended period of time, which caused the waters to part. Another popular theory is that an earthquake caused the huge fissure that the waters parted through. A lesser known theory is that a waterspout lifted the waters, which parted for Moses and the Israelites to cross through. No matter what the cause was, the end result was the same- the Red Sea parted and Moses and the Israelites were saved from Pharaoh and his army.

No one can know for certain if the Red Sea really split. It is possible that a strong wind caused a waterspout that parted the sea long enough for the Hebrews to cross. Another possibility is that an earthquake caused the sea to split. Since there are no eyewitnesses to the event, we cannot know for sure what happened.

Was there really a parting of the Red Sea?

Some non-believers dismiss the miracles described in the Bible as fiction or metaphor. However, research suggests that at least one of those supposed impossibilities – the parting of the Red Sea to make way for Moses and the fleeing Israelites – may have actually happened. This possibility adds credence to the Bible and its accounts of other miracles.
