It’s a good thing that Shawn was only stabbed in the back during that bar fight and not anywhere else that could have been much more serious. Luckily, he was still able to recover quickly and didn’t have any lingering effects from the injury.
It is fascinating to think about how a 120-lb two-week-old seal could have cost $600,000 to purchase in 2017. It is even more interesting to consider that the same person who found and bought the seal, Hank Schimschat, retired from mining in 2019 and then hired out the AU Grabber. Though no longer part of the show, in 2020 the dredge once again appeared on Bering Sea Gold, still mining in the Nome region. What a great story!

The barge was introduced in season 10 of the show and has been a popular feature since then. The show follows the gold mining efforts of various crews in the Bering Sea area, and the Christine Rose is one of the vessels featured prominently.
Thebarge is equipped with a hydraulic excavator arm and bucket system, which is used to mine for gold underwater. The arm is operated by a joystick control system inside the barge, and the bucket is used to scoop up sediment and gold from the seabed. The dredge sank twice in the span of six weeks on “Gold Rush”. Thankfully, Beets’ experienced team was able to recover it and get it up and going again. Both times, the crew was able to identify the problem and make the necessary repairs. The first time, the dredge sank due to a mechanical error. The second time, it sank due to human error. Thankfully, no one was hurt and the dredge was able to be recovered both times.
What did Tony do with his dredges?
Tony Beets buys dredge just before season 5. He proceeds to disassemble the dredge during season 5, hoping to have it up and running at the end of season 5, or the start of season 6. The dredge is located at Clear Creek at the beginning of season 5, and is to be moved to the Paradise Hill Claim to start dredging there.
Alex’s experience in consulting and sales in both Washington DC and Chicago will be a great asset in his new move to Alaska. Prior to the move, he should research the state’s business climate and develop a plan for how he can best utilize his skills in the new location.

At the end of the 2018 season of Bering Sea Gold, Vern Adkison was still mining for gold in Nome, Alaska. However, his health had begun to decline and he was not able to do the physical labor required for gold mining. As a result, he had to rely on his son Shawn to help him with the mining.
Vern was a gold miner on season 6 of Bering Sea Gold. He was part of the gold-mining team “The Midwest Crew.” During the season, the team mined for gold in Nome, Alaska. They found a lot of gold, but Vern ultimately left the show because he was not getting along with his crewmates.
