His boat, the M/V Alaska Gold, was found abandoned and disabled on October 2nd near Akutan Island in Alaska. No sign of Adkison or the other two crew members were found on the boat or in the surrounding area, and a search and rescue operation turned up no further clues as to their whereabouts. The most likely explanation is that they were lost at sea, but without any definitive evidence it remains impossible to say for certain what happened to Vernon Adkison and his crew.
