It’s amazing how one’s life can change so much in a decade. What started out as a summer fling with gold dredging in Alaska has turned into a full-blown career for Emily Riedel. And what’s even more impressive is that she’s done it all on her own.
When Riedel first arrived in Nome, Alaska, she had big dreams of pursuing a career in music. But with the high cost of opera studies, she knew she needed to find a way to make some quick money. So she took a job as a dredge captain and started mining for gold.
Fast-forward 10 years, and Riedel is now one of the most successful dredge captains in Nome. She’s built up a strong clientele base and has even started her own dredging business.
Although she never ended up pursuing her music career, Riedel is still thankful for the experience. “I’m really happy with the life I’ve built for myself here in Nome,” she says. “It may not be what I originally planned, but it’s been really rewarding.”
Todd’s experience as a miner and his knowledge of the industry give him a good chance of success at his new mine. However, the remote location and lack of infrastructure will be challenging. Todd will need to be very careful and organized in his operations to make the mine a success.
